Wild Nothing’s Gemini. Chillwave, dream pop, indie rock. Whatever. This is a great album. This 80’s (and 90’s) influenced band has a created a record that I just can’t seem to get away from. I find myself wondering what that tune I’m singing in my head is, and it’s usually from this album. It’s got a great vibe. So grab your discman, skateboard, your baggy jeans and flip flops and head down to the beach because summer is here with Wild Nothing’s Gemini.

I think that gig summed up most of the reasons that I don’t like ‘dubstep’.

It isn’t even real dubstep.

I could swear the two guys were literally pressing play on their macbook pro’s. The whole gig sounded exactly the same at the album, all the way through. Yeah there were a couple of remixes, and extensions of tracks, but it was boring.

The woman was lip syncing.

Every song sounded the same.

Idiot guys who take their tops off and try to start mosh pits. You’re at watching a dance act, and you’re using it as an excuse to hit people, basically. (I’d be more than happy with the moshing if it were a rock gig, but it just doesn’t seem right at this sort of thing)

12 year olds.

Dunno man, I was expecting more to be honest.

I want to see SBTRKT again.

I seriously cannot get enough of dreamy, wistful pop music. Last summer, Wild Nothing’s stunning debut album, Gemini, was the epitome of hauntingly beautiful nostalgia. The insane amounts of reverb coupled with Jack Tatum’s alluring voice made an album that was not only pleasing to the ears, but pleasing to the soul.

Following that summery nostalgic trend is Craft Spells, a four-piece band hailing from the sunny West Coast. Led by Justin Vallesteros, the band creates some truly beautiful melodies. Vallestero’s voice is evocative, as it floats just above sorrow but just below contentment. Inviting guitars and angelic synths combine to make some unforgettable tunes, forming poignant sounds that are impossible to resist.

“The Fog Rose High” is featured on Craft Spells’ debut album, Idle Labor, off the Captured Tracks label.

I don’t get why Enter Shikari are getting pretty much all of their tracks off the new album played on Radio 1. Surely it’ll just mean that it’ll be no fun listening to the album for the first time because you’ve already heard it all already?

Well I haven’t stopped listening to The Weeknd since I realised this whole ‘trilogy’ was free to download from his site.

I’ve heard him most commonly being described as ‘Alternative R&B’, but I think genres are getting pretty extreme at the moment, so I’ll just say it’s R&B/Hip Hop. And I think that ‘Hip Hop’ extends out so much further than just Rap with Heavy beats. Anyway, he’s a singer, and he sings well. Abel’s vocals are incredible, and the production on all of his tracks is always great.

He’s been confirmed to play at this years Coachella, and there’s also rumours of a world tour. He’s also pretty pally with Drake, so I love him more.

Here’s one of my favourite tracks, The Fall.

Scissor Sisters ft. Azealia Banks - Shady Love

With all of the hype about the last year being the year of ‘women’, particularly the surge is female rappers there has been alot of focus and attention on Azealia Banks.

She doesn’t rap here at all, but her vocals are great, and fit with the song seamlessly, proving that she is talented beyond the boundaries of rap.

I wouldn’t have minded hearing her have a verse herself on here though - the idea of Jake from the Scissor Sisters heading up the ‘electro rap’ track wasn’t too appealing. As good as the track is, and as good as his vocals are, I hope this is a one off and he sticks to the singing.

Surfer Blood - Tarot Classics EP

Surfer Blood have finally released their long awaited follow up to Astro Coast, Tarot Classics.

Here’s the first track, I’m Not Ready.

The EP as a whole is very good, but I can’t help think that Surfer Blood are loosing their ‘summery vibes’ a bit. However, musically, they’re definitely improving.
